Promoting Diversity through Drexel’s Archival & Special Collections: The Drexel Audio Archives & Sigma Sound Studios Collection Online

About this Event

In this inaugural webinar for the Libraries’ newest series Promoting Diversity through Drexel’s Archival & Special Collections, learn about the Drexel Audio Archives. Its stewardship has helped to preserve the Sigma Sound Studios collection, a historic collection of audiotapes documenting the legacy of Sigma Sound Studios and its pop, soul, disco, and R&B recordings that became known as “The Philly Sound,” a period of musical innovation deeply rooted in the City’s Black community.

During the event, Professor Toby Seay, Project Director for the Drexel Audio Archives, will discuss the challenges and the importance of preserving audio recordings and share a few of his favorite tracks from the collection.

The discussion will be moderated by members of the Drexel University Black Alumni Council and WKDU's Black Experience in Music and will include time for Q&A.

This is the first webinar in the Drexel Libraries' new webinar series, Promoting Diversity through Drexel’s Archival & Special Collections, which features conversations, virtual tours, and demonstrations with curators, archivists, librarians and researchers and showcases campus archives and other collections of cultural and historic artifacts housed across the University.
