The Drexel Echo: the Origins of Student Publishing at Drexel

The Drexel Echo: the Origins of Student Publishing at Drexel, the latest exhibit from the Drexel University Archives, invites visitors to explore Drexel’s very first student newspaper.

Published from 1907 to 1912, the Drexel Echo wasn’t a typical newspaper. It was part newspaper, part literary magazine, events calendar, and alumni publication all in one.

This exhibition brings together a sampling of content published in the Echo throughout its five-year run, including campus news and gossip, original fiction and poetry, visual art and cartoons, advertisements, inside jokes, student research reports, alumni news, and Drexel sports coverage.

The materials in the exhibit reveal not only the unique nature of Drexel’s first student newspaper but also offer a glimpse into student life at the Drexel Institute in the early 20th century.

The exhibit will be on display outside the University Archives’ Reading Room, W. W. Hagerty Library, lower level, now through March 31, 2027. The exhibit is free and open to the public during regular library hours.
