Visualizing Health: A Photography Exhibit

April 23 – August 29, 2026
W. W. Hagerty Library, 3300 Market Street, Philadelphia
Public view hours: Monday through Friday, 9am to 4pm

This exhibit is hosted by the Drexel University Libraries, with Kelly Underman, PhD, Associate Professor, Department of Sociology (College of Arts & Sciences), and the Department of Photography (Westphal College of Media Arts & Design).

The latest exhibit on display in the W. W. Hagerty Library features original photographs by students enrolled in SOC 235 Sociology of Health (Fall 2025 and Winter 2026) and SOC 318 Social Networks and Health (Winter 2025). For the assignment, Professors Kelly Underman and Emmanuel Koku asked students to take photographs that illustrated key concepts from the course, such as health inequalities and the experience of illness.

Visualizing Health presents students’ reflections on health during a historical moment of overlapping societal crises. Students’ creative depictions of concepts from the social sciences illustrate the enduring importance of thinking critically about health, healthcare, and illness.
